Scarred and hard-hearted, Dorian is one of Victorian London’s wealthiest, most influential men who will stop at nothing to wreak vengeance on those who’ve wronged him…and will fight to the death to seize what he wants. The lovely, still innocent widow Farah Leigh Mackenzie is no exception-and soon Dorian whisks the beautiful lass away to his sanctuary in the wild Highlands…

But Farah is no one’s puppet. She possesses a powerful secret-one that threatens her very life. When being held captive by Dorian proves to be the only way to keep Farah safe from those who would see her dead, Dorian makes Farah a scandalous proposition: marry him for protection in exchange for using her secret to help him exact revenge on his enemies. But what the Blackheart of Ben More never could have imagined is that Farah has terms of her own, igniting a tempestuous desire that consumes them both. Could it be that the woman he captured is the only one who can touch the black heart he’d long thought dead?

Kommentar

13/15

Die schönsten Zitate

Something in their world had shifted. Some sort of cosmological knowledge, or a secret thought lost at sea floating to the surface. In this quiet, unfettered moment, she knew him, truly saw him for what he was. Hard, ruthless tyrant. Abused, wounded boy. An empty heart full of promise, and a soul of shadows in need of sunlight.

»You see, husband, I have nothing left to fear but death.«
»That is where you’re wrong.« His usually silky voice thickened to the texture of the jagged Highland stones. Whether from the strong liquor or the bleak memories swirling in his eyes, she couldn’t be sure. »There are so many things more terrifying than death.«
In that moment, Farah was certain he’d been exposed to them all.

Some men felt fire lick through them when they were about to kill. It turned their skin red, made them sweat, filled their muscles with strength and heat and burned away all sense of logic and control.
With Dorian, it was ice.
It hardened his muscles and crackled through his veins, freezing everything that made him alive. Human. It expanded to fill the empty spaces and reinforced any brittle parts. It dulled pain until people could chip away at him again and again, only to be bit by shards. The cold kept him sharp. Alert. Fierce.
And didn’t slow him down one bit.

»If I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s that there is no darkness so absolute that it cannot be dispelled by the faintest of light,« she explained.
His face softened as his eyes touched her, and his boot slid forward.

Serie: Victorian Rebels #1

Inhalt

Dorian Blackwell, the Blackheart of Ben More, is a ruthless villain.
