Wie gestern angek\u00fcndigt, folgen weitere Portland-Storm-Artikel. Bei den beiden Novellas handelt es sich um zwei Short Stories \u00fcber Jamie „Babs“ Babcock und Katie Weber. <\/p>\n

Catherine Gayle: Ice Breaker (Portland Storm #0.5)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Klappentext: <\/strong>Jamie „Babs“ Babcock couldn\u2019t wrap his head around the fact that he\u2019d landed a spot on the Portland Storm at age eighteen. Shouldn\u2019t he be on his way back to his junior team, not being dragged out to strip clubs to celebrate and trying to figure out where he was going to live? There was no time to come to terms with his new reality, either, before he was swarmed by a gaggle of giggling girls at the team\u2019s preseason Ice Breaker.<\/p>\n

But then he bumped into her. Literally bumped into her, no less, and all he could do was blush and stammer and hope she didn\u2019t think he was a freaking idiot, because he sure felt like one. She blushed and stammered, too. And then she walked away before he could even ask for her name.<\/p>\n

Love at first blush? A crazy thought, for sure, but so was the idea of playing in the NHL at only eighteen. Crazy or not, it looked like they were both about to happen.<\/p>\n

Kommentar: <\/strong>Diese Kurzgeschichte ist offiziell nur erh\u00e4ltlich, wenn man Catherine Gayles Newsletter abonniert. Der Klappentext sagt eigentlich schon alles, was es zu sagen gibt: Es geht um Babs\u2019 Aufnahme ins Profiteam von Portland Storm und sein erstes Aufeinandertreffen mit Katie, der Tochter seines Teamkollegen Webs. Es ist eine s\u00fc\u00dfe Geschichte, die eine Ahnung von Babs\u2019 Charakter vermittelt, aber mehr nicht. (Und mehr will sie auch nicht sein.) Unverzichtbar f\u00fcr ein komplettes Babs-Bild und f\u00fcr alle Babs-Fans, aber schon aufgrund der geringen Seitenzahl inhaltlich nicht \u00fcberm\u00e4\u00dfig ergiebig. <\/p>\n

Catherine Gayle: Taking a Shot (Portland Storm #2,5)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a>Klappentext: <\/strong>Katie Weber has lost her health due to leukemia, and now her chemotherapy treatments have taken her hair. She\u2019s not about to show up to her senior prom bald and let her classmates steal her dignity, too. Prom is no place for a girl who looks more like an alien than a high school student, especially when her so-called friends all dropped her like she had the plague at the first mention of the word cancer. Katie could never get up the courage to ask Jamie\u2014her crush for almost two years, ever since he joined her dad\u2019s pro hockey team\u2014to take her. Not with the way she looks now. Besides, her dad would absolutely murder him. <\/p>\n

Jamie Babcock knows its bad news to fall for his Portland Storm teammate\u2019s daughter, but he\u2019s had a thing for Katie since the first time he met her when he was just a wide-eyed, eighteen-year-old rookie. Now cancer might take her away before he ever grows the balls to do anything about it, though. Her father won\u2019t be happy about it, but Jamie has to take a shot and ask to take her to her prom. It seems like Katie has just about given up, and he can\u2019t let her go without giving her some good memories\u2026something to hold on to. She\u2019s still got her whole life ahead of her\u2014she just has to keep living it. If he can convince her of that, nothing her father might do to him will matter. <\/p>\n

Kommentar:<\/strong> Bereits in Band 2 der Serie hat Katie ihre Krebsdiagnose erhalten; inzwischen ist ihre Chemotherapie gestartet. Sie verliert ihre Haare und zunehmend auch ihren Kampfgeist und Lebensmut. Jamie \u201eBabs\u201c Babcock, der seit Jahren heimlich in sie verliebt ist, leidet stumm mit ihr, traut sich aber nicht an sie heran, weil Katies Vater sein Teamkollege ist und jegliche Verbindung zwischen den beiden ablehnt. Ein kluger Rat seines Teamkollegen Kally (Protagonist von Band 3) und die Unterst\u00fctzung einiger anderer Mitspieler reichen aber letztendlich, um Babs die Augen zu \u00f6ffnen und zum Handeln zu bewegen: Er fragt Katie, ob sie mit ihm auf ihren Prom geht, und gibt ihr neue Kraft, den Kampf gegen die Leuk\u00e4mie aufzunehmen.<\/p>\n

Was soll ich sagen, es ist eine ber\u00fchrende, herzzerrei\u00dfende und gleichzeitig hoffnungsvolle Novella. Katie ist ein gro\u00dfartiges M\u00e4dchen, das versucht, tapfer zu sein und die Krankheit zu besiegen, aber unter den physischen und psychischen Auswirkungen der Krankheit sowie den Nebenwirkungen der Behandlung leidet. Und Jamie \u2026 ach Jamie! \u2665 Jamie ist bei aller Sch\u00fcchternheit und Zur\u00fcckhaltung wirklich der allerbeste, liebenswerteste, verst\u00e4ndnisvollste, warmherzigste Kerl, der einem M\u00e4dchen passieren kann. Was soll also bei einer Novella \u00fcber diese beiden rauskommen als eine wundervolle Geschichte? <\/p>\n
